29 Students at Neu-Ulm University Receive German Scholarship

14. December 2021

On 25 November 2021, a total of 29 students at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) were awarded the Deutschlandstipendium for their outstanding academic achievements and voluntary commitment. At the virtual handover ceremony with the scholarship holders and the sponsors from the region, a mocktail workshop with a bartending world champion took place.

29 students at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences were awarded the Deutschlandstipendium (German Scholarship) at an online handover ceremony, which supports high-achieving and committed students of all nationalities from Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, regardless of income. A scholarship amounts to 300 euros per month. Achievements in school and studies as well as social commitment count in the selection of scholarship holders. Two students participated from Finland, where they are currently completing their double degree.

At the presentation ceremony, Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, Vice-President of the University, welcomed the guests and congratulated the honoured students on their scholarship. The Germany scholarship holders “stand out on the one hand because of the responsibility they have taken for their individual progress and their academic success,” said Prof. Kormann. With regard to the current Corona situation, she added: “At the same time, they stand out for the responsibility they bear for the community and they support the change that is currently taking place in the digital and sustainable transformation in the economy, society, politics and also at universities.”

A special item on the programme of the handover ceremony was the mocktail workshop (cocktails without alcohol, mocktail is a portmanteau of cocktail and the English word to mock, which means to imitate) with the bartending world champion Michael Steinbacher from Salzburg. The participants mixed and enjoyed together in front of the screens. This year, the awarding of the scholarships was sponsored by 24 companies from the region. Contact with capable and motivated young people is particularly important for many regional companies, as they see them as future workers for a strong region. Others see it as their social responsibility to value and promote outstanding performance.

Many companies have been supporting outstanding students for several years. Five former HNU students are now active as sponsors themselves. In 2021, the following companies sponsored the Deutschlandstipendien: Beurer GmbH, BITE GmbH, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, ClarCert GmbH, Endress + Hauser Deutschland GmbH + Co. KG, Förderverein der Hochschule Neu-Ulm, Fritz Stiefel Industrie-Vertretungen GmbH, HENSOLDT Sensors GmbH, Husqvarna Group, IWL AG, Karger Holding GmbH, LIQUI MOLY GmbH, Paul Hartmann AG, PERI AG, Seifert Logistics GmbH, Sparkassen-Stiftungstreuhand GmbH, SPHEREA GmbH, Systemhaus Ulm GmbH, TEVA GmbH, Transporeon GmbH, Uhlmann Pac-Systeme GmbH & Co.
