Ministry of Economics announces innovation award of the state

16. March 2022

The Baden-Württemberg Innovation Award is being presented for the 38th time and honours innovative products, processes or services. Medium-sized companies can apply with their technology-open ideas until 31 May.

Minister Hoffmeister-Kraut: “We are looking for the best companies in the state whose innovations can make a significant contribution to the success of Baden-Württemberg as a business location.”

“Innovations are the decisive factor in overcoming current challenges such as the effects of the Corona pandemic, transformation and climate change. That is why we are looking for the best companies in the state whose innovations can make a significant contribution to the success of Baden-Württemberg as a business location,” said Minister of Economic Affairs Dr Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut today (1 March) on the occasion of the launch of this year’s call for entries for the state’s innovation prize. “The award-winning innovations of the past years show the potential and strength of our medium-sized companies when it comes to implementing ideas with courage and perseverance and bringing them to market,” the Minister continued.

Baden-Württemberg is the front-runner in a national comparison when it comes to research and development activities, most of which are carried out by the companies in the state. Around 25.3 billion euros of R&D expenditure was provided by the business sector in 2019, according to the latest figures from the Baden-Württemberg Statistical Office. This means that one third of the nationwide R&D expenditure, in terms of the economy, comes from Baden-Württemberg companies.

The Innovation Award of the state (Dr. Rudolf Eberle Award) honours technology-open ideas and their implementation for innovative products, processes or services of medium-sized companies from industry, trade and technological services.

This year, the award is being presented for the 38th time and is thus part of a long tradition. It is endowed with a total of 50,000 euros and dedicated to the former Minister of Economics, Dr. Rudolf Eberle (1926 -1984). Since 1985, the prize has been awarded to small and medium-sized enterprises for exemplary achievements in the development of new products and technical processes or in the application of modern technologies.
