SWU Stadtwerke Ulm / Neu Ulm GmbH offers a wide range of products and extensive services in the areas of energy, drinking water, telecommunications and mobility in and around the city. The group of companies, one hundred percent in municipal hands, makes a major contribution to the quality of life of the people in the Ulm / Neu-Ulm area and is an important economic factor. The approximately one thousand SWU employees recently generated annual sales of 492 million euros (2019 financial year) and a profit of over three million euros. With around sixty trainees, the company is characterized by an above-average training quota. The training at SWU comprises ten professions, including two courses at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University.

In addition to the holding company, the SWU group of companies consists of four operationally independent companies: SWU Energie, Stadtwerke Ulm / Neu-Ulm Netze, SWU Verkehr and SWU TeleNet. Together they supply around 200,000 customers in Ulm, Neu-Ulm and the surrounding area with electricity, natural gas, district heating and drinking water; In addition, there are telecommunications services and the operation of 19 local transport lines. The most recent addition was tram line 2. Since December 2018, it has been connecting the city of Ulm to the science city and the large school center on the Kuhberg.
